Dispense inventory on a visit

Hand out medication or supplies during a visit so the client is billed and your stock stays accurate.

When you give out a medication or supply during a visit, record it from your inventory. This puts the item on the bill at the right price and reduces your stock on hand, so your counts stay accurate.

Prerequisites: the item exists in inventory, ideally with dispensing options set up.

Steps

  1. On the visit, click Add service and choose to add from inventory.
  2. Search for and select the item (for example, a vaccine or an oral medication).
  3. If the item has dispensing options (such as a single dose vs a course), pick the one you used. decavet knows how much stock each option consumes.
  4. Adjust the quantity if you used more or less than the default.
  5. Add client notes if the owner should see dosing instructions.
  6. Add it to the visit.

You'll know it worked when…

The item appears as a line on the visit at the correct price, and the item's stock on hand drops by the amount dispensed.

Tip: Set up dispensing options once (e.g. "single dose" vs "10-day course") so the right amount of stock is deducted automatically every time.
