Contact methods & opt-ins

Add phones and emails to a contact and control what each one can be used for.

A contact's ways of being reached — contact methods — are kept as a list, so one person can have several. Each method can carry opt-in flags that say what it's okay to use for.

Prerequisites: an existing contact.

Method types

  • Email
  • Mobile
  • Phone (landline / barn line)
  • Fax
  • WhatsApp
  • Other

Opt-ins

For the relevant methods you can mark whether they may be used for:

  • Billing — invoices and payment reminders go here.
  • Marketing — promotional email.
  • Text (SMS) — text messages to a mobile number.

Respecting these flags keeps you compliant with what each client agreed to.

Steps

  1. Open the contact and edit it (or expand the Contact methods section).
  2. Click to add a method.
  3. Choose the type (email, mobile, phone, …) and enter the value.
  4. Set the opt-in flags as appropriate (billing, marketing, text).
  5. Mark one as the primary method if you have several of a kind.
  6. Click Save.

You'll know it worked when…

The methods appear on the contact's detail page, and billing email goes to the address you marked for billing.

Tip: A client can have a personal mobile and a barn phone. Mark the one that should receive invoices as the billing method so reminders don't go to the wrong place.
