Patient status

Mark a patient active, deceased, or archived to keep your lists clean without losing history.

Every patient has a status: Active, Deceased, or Archived. Status keeps your day-to-day lists focused on current animals while preserving the full record for history and billing.

Prerequisites: the patient exists.

What each status means

  • Active — a current patient, shown in your normal lists.
  • Deceased — the animal has passed; the record (and its history) is kept but no longer expected in active work. You can record the date.
  • Archived — set aside (sold, moved away, no longer a client) without deleting anything.

Steps

  1. Open the patient from Patients.
  2. Edit the patient, or use the status control on the detail page.
  3. Choose the new status. For Deceased, record the date if known.
  4. Click Save.

You'll know it worked when…

The patient's status updates on the record and they drop out of your active lists (but remain findable and keep their full history).

Important: Changing status never deletes records. Past visits, invoices, and payments stay intact for your books and history.
